Our Story

Archive Mercantile is a considered collection of antique, vintage, and storied objects chosen for the lives they have already held and the lives they may hold next.

A Considered Collection

Archive Mercantile exists to make discovering meaningful objects feel welcoming, thoughtful, and unhurried. The collection brings together pieces with enduring material, character, craftsmanship, usefulness, history, or potential for continued life.

Chosen with a Maker’s Eye

Each object is individually selected and examined before it enters the collection. Signs of age and use are not automatically treated as flaws; they are part of an object’s history. Condition, repairs, measurements, and other relevant details are documented as clearly as possible so every customer can make an informed decision.

Research Without Pretense

When an object’s age, maker, origin, or provenance can be supported by available evidence, that research is shared. When it cannot, uncertainty is stated plainly. Archive Mercantile does not claim that every piece is rare, museum-grade, or fully documented—and descriptions may be corrected when better information becomes available.

Meet the Founder

Archive Mercantile was founded by Lauren Sterrett in Powhatan, Virginia. With a BFA in Fashion Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Lauren brings a maker’s understanding of materials, construction, craftsmanship, and design to the process of selecting and documenting each object.

Her interest in sustainability and thoughtful consumption shapes the collection: objects with useful lives behind them deserve the opportunity for meaningful lives ahead.
