Vintage Solid Maple Gossip Bench / Telephone Bench, c. 1960s

A charming vintage gossip bench, also known as a telephone bench, dating to approximately the 1960s. Crafted from warm-toned maple, it features a spindle back, turned legs, a scalloped apron, and an elevated side table originally designed to hold a telephone.

Today, it would make a distinctive entryway seat, plant stand, bedside piece, or decorative accent. Its compact proportions offer both seating and display space without requiring a large footprint.

The bench is believed to be an Ethan Allen piece based on its construction and close similarity to documented Ethan Allen maple gossip benches. However, no maker’s mark has been located, so the attribution cannot be guaranteed.

The piece is in excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate wear, including visible surface scratches, finish variation, and small marks consistent with decades of use. These details contribute to its authentic vintage character. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.

Style: Colonial Revival / Early American
Original use: Telephone or “gossip” bench
